NHK 新ドキュメント太平洋戦争

NHK Unveiling The Pacific War + NHK Pacific War 80th

Eighty years have passed since the Pacific War, and we can now see life, public opinion, and many other things from that time.
The war considered through all kinds of eyes.

Eighty years have passed since the Pacific War. How should we view "80 years"?
A new perspective on those days. The logo design and motion were created to shine a light on the areas that had been difficult to see.

The opening, shot in stop-motion, conveys the raw immediacy of individual perspectives.

This opening sequence was created for an NHK program whose theme, Ego Document, seeks to see war through the eyes of its participants.

To embody this idea, I used photographs of the individuals featured and built camerawork that links their gazes, guiding viewers from one set of eyes to another.

To heighten the immediacy of war, the sequence was shot in stop-motion, gradually moving closer into each photograph. The camera eventually shifts to a macro lens, enlarging the images until even the halftone dots of the print reveal the texture of history itself.

NHK Program Design for 80 Years After the War

The program explores how we should interpret the ways of passing down memories eighty years after the war, at a time when the real experiences of those who lived through it are gradually fading. I designed the title logo to embody this pursuit.
